I was delighted that so many people turned out to support the Chichester Heritage Trails project. We had people of all ages and backgrounds. Some had experience of historical research and some were just keen to learn. But what struck me was that everyone present had a real love for the heritage of the city and an eagerness to see that heritage celebrated in the best way possible.
We now have more nearly 60 people who have expressed a willingness to be a project volunteer. I am looking forward to the training sessions that I will be running at West Sussex Record Office in April. The Record Office team will be taking volunteers on a behind-the-scenes tour of the Record Office and I will be playing extracts from oral history tapes never before aired in public – it is very exciting to share these resources with our enthusiastic band of volunteers.
